Acquisition Adds Robust Informatics Services to Aptuit Portfolio, Designed to Enable Seamless, Multi-Site, Real Time Customer Access to Drug Development Data and Information
GREENWICH, CT, and AGOURA HILLS, CA, November 14, 2005 — Aptuit, Inc., a leading drug development services company, today announced it has completed the acquisition of InfoPro Solutions, developers of the industry standard Clinicopia® Suite, Clinicambio Data Exchange and the other ITbased, hosted clinical trial materials management solutions. The acquisition will enable Aptuit to leverage InfoPro Solutions’ expertise to deploy the industry’s first global, multi-customer, multi-site platform to enable their clients to track details of their drug development projects anywhere in the world, in real time. The deal is expected to close in late 2005 or early 2006. As part of the deal, Aptuit will acquire InfoPro Solutions’ facilities in Agoura Hills, California; Westford, Massachusetts; Bangalore, India; and Frankfurt, Germany; and retain InfoPro Solutions’ approximately 120 employees. InfoPro Solutions’ clients include some of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Aptuit Informatics will continue to provide them with industry standard IT systems, services, and global development teams of domain experts.
Under the brand name of Aptuit Informatics, InfoPro Solutions’ experienced professionals will continue to develop, market, and service best-of-breed, mission-critical information systems to support drug developers all over the world. Aptuit Informatics plans to develop the next generation of IT solutions to meet the needs of preclinical and pharmaceutical sciences customers and investigators, bringing Aptuit to the forefront in informatics and providing the company with a sustainable competitive advantage across all of its business lines. The acquisition will enable Aptuit to provide comprehensive solutions to small, virtual, and large, global pharmaceutical companies. “Our acquisition of InfoPro Solutions will ultimately give us the ability to offer our customers both comprehensive real time access to data and information across all our business lines, facilities, and twenty-five supply depots worldwide, addressing a significant unmet need in drug development,” said Michael A. Griffith, CEO, Aptuit. “We intend to take the same expertise that created Clinicopia“, which is recognized as an industry standard, and leverage it across our enterprise.” Aptuit will also tap InfoPro Solutions’ worldclass development facility in Bangalore, India to increase efficiencies by ‘insourcing’ some of their internal business process-related IT needs that are presently being outsourced to IT vendors.
“Our vision for InfoPro Solutions has always been to build and market the most innovative software solutions to address key process and informationrelated challenges in the drug development markets,” said Vikram Marla, CEO and founder of InfoPro Solutions. “Aptuit shares that vision, and views the efficient, seamless exchange of data between sponsors, vendors, distributors, investigators, and third party systems as critical to ‘engineering a better drug development process.’ We can’t think of a better partner to help us pursue this vision.” Mr. Marla will join Aptuit’s senior management team as President, Aptuit Informatics. The current Aptuit software development team, which was formerly part of Almedica International, will be transitioned to the Aptuit Informatics brand under Mr. Marla’s leadership. Elements of Aptuit’s current software suite, developed by the former Almedica team, may also be incorporated into future Aptuit Informatics platforms.
The acquisition will immediately enhance Aptuit’s informatics offering by incorporating InfoPro Solutions’ premier clinical information technology systems into Aptuit Informatics’ services and solution offerings. Clinicopia“ Suite functionality encompasses planning and forecasting, clinical supplies management, inventory management, clinical manufacturing and packaging, resource management and clinical label creation, and approval management. In addition, the company’s Clinicambio Data Exchange system enables seamless integration and sharing of real time data across multiple vendors, contractors and IT systems.
Customers that are using clinical trial supply chain management tools acquired and transitioned to Aptuit with the company’s purchase of Almedica International will continue to have access to their existing platforms and resources, and Aptuit will continue to support the former Almedica software and services. Once Aptuit Informatics’ new, end-to-end platform is developed and deployed across all business lines, it will be offered to all customers, along with transitional support. As part of the acquisition, Aptuit Informatics will evaluate the overall software and IT capabilities and services currently offered to customers, incorporating the best of the offerings into industry leading solutions for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
