American Veterinary Medical Association Renews Full Accreditation for St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine through 2025

This week, Dr. Neil Olson, Dean of St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, announced that the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education has renewed the school’s full accreditation for the maximum term of seven years, through 2025.

TRUE BLUE, Grenada, Nov. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- This week, Dr. Neil Olson, Dean of St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, announced that the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education has renewed the school’s full accreditation for the maximum term of seven years, through 2025.

“We’re proud that AVMA’s Council on Education continues to recognize the high caliber of our veterinary medicine program,” Dr. Olson said. “Since our founding two decades ago, we have graduated more than 1,400 top-notch veterinarians who are working worldwide to address the most pressing challenges in animal health.”

The re-accreditation allows St. George’s graduates to continue to seek licensure in the United States and Canada after passing the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, just as graduates of accredited schools in the United States and Canada can. St. George’s graduates recorded a 95 percent pass rate on the exam in the 2017-18 academic year.

The re-accreditation also enables U.S. students to continue to apply for lower-interest federal loans and in-school deferments through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program.

St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine is one of 19 AVMA-accredited schools outside the United States -- and one of just two in the Caribbean. The School maintains partnerships with 29 universities and clinical facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Grenada, Ireland, and Australia where fourth year students spend a year of clinical training.

“By securing the maximum full accreditation term from the AVMA, we’ve made clear that we’re among the world’s elite schools of veterinary medicine,” said Dr. Olson, who previously served as Dean at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and as the Associate Dean at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. “We look forward to continuing to recruit the world’s best and brightest aspiring veterinarians -- and training them for successful careers as leaders in veterinary medicine.”
