American Diabetes Association Release: Diabetes EXPO To Address Metro DC Epidemic

WASHINGTON, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Five thousand people of the 423,000 living with diabetes in the Washington, DC, market are expected to attend the third annual Diabetes EXPO on Saturday, April 22, 2006 from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM at the Washington Convention Center. The event is free to the public.

At the EXPO, they will receive free A1C, blood pressure, cholesterol, foot and vision screenings, information on the latest products and services, consultations with diabetes medical professionals and listen to speeches by area researchers, medical professionals and a DC City Councilmember:

Attendees will also benefit from some friendly competitive cooking by members of several community organizations as they prepare diabetes-friendly dishes against those from the professional chefs at Secrets of Nature, a vegan restaurant based in DC, and caterers from The Pampered Chef. EXPO attendees get to enjoy the results of “Taste of ADA” from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

There are 46,000 people living with diabetes just within the District of Columbia. Untreated or uncontrolled diabetes can lead to kidney failure, blindness and death. Fortunately, there is the Diabetes EXPO, the nation’s largest health exposition dedicated solely to helping people with diabetes live better and healthier lives.
