New gait analysis tool shows the direct effects of unweighting to help therapists achieve maximum functional outcomes
Fremont, Calif. Feb 13, 2017 -- AlterG®, sports and medical technology creator of Anti-Gravity Treadmills®, is releasing a new gait analytics technology for their M/F320 Anti-Gravity Treadmills, allowing therapists to see the direct effects of unweighting during therapy.
This new technology integrates intuitive gait and video analytics into therapy to help clinicians identify asymmetry and gait deficiencies, and precisely dial-in the optimal body weight support needed to enable pain-free, normalized gait to create the ideal therapy environment in real-time.
Stride Smart technology provides both the clinician and patient five types of objective data during therapy:
- Weight Bearing Symmetry: Improves balance control and reduces risk of pain and joint degeneration in unaffected leg
- Step Length Symmetry: Can increase step length and walking speed to achieve a more efficient gait and reduce fall risk
- Stance Time Symmetry: Can help patients correct asymmetries leading to increased step length, increased walking speed, and improved stance time symmetry
- Cadence: Improvements can lead to faster gait, better mobility, and improved health.
- Pain Recording: Correlating gait and unweighting data with patient-reported pain scores helps establish optimal parameters for therapy.
Data provided by Stride Smart is available in real time and through video monitoring, which can both be integrated to increase a patient’s understanding of their gait mechanics as well as improve collaboration between patient and therapist to make the recovery as efficient and personalized as possible.
“We’re excited to provide clinicians intuitive, objective data to help them see the direct effects of AlterG differential air pressure unweighting technology on gait symmetry,” said Sanjay Gupta, chief executive officer of AlterG. “We believe this will be a great tool to help maximize functional outcomes and document patient improvement.”
“Combining the benefits of AlterG’s unweighting technology and gait analysis will help us identify gait deficiencies in our patients that we might not have been able to see otherwise,” said Ross Nakaji PT, OCS, SCS, ATC, CSCS. “By testing Stride Smart with a student-athlete who is recovering from a fractured tibia and fibula for example, we’ve been able to use the data to find the exact body weight percentage to begin their rehab where they can still maintain symmetrical, ‘perfect practice’ biomechanics and avoid the development of compensatory strategies. The Stride Smart gives us quick real time data and visual feedback to help our patients recover quicker from their injuries.”
Stride Smart technology is available for purchase with AlterG M/F320 Anti-Gravity Treadmills, which is ideal for physical therapy clinics, rehabilitation facilities, and wellness centers. The technology will also be available for separate purchase to install and retrofit into any existing AlterG treadmill.
