AKRON, Ohio, /PRNewswire/ -- 21Medtech announced that Professor Matthew Becker, 21Medtech founder and inventor, has become the 20th recipient of the Carl S. Marvel Award in Creative Polymer Chemistry recognizing his accomplishments of unusual merit in the field of applied polymer science. This prestigious award is presented by the American Chemical Society, Division of Polymer Chemistry, every other year. Becker helped found 21MedTech in 2015 to commercialize his discoveries in novel resorbable polymers to address unmet medical needs. One invention, the Versetel™ platform of PPF poly(propylene fumarate) based materials, are the only resorbable polymers capable of being 3D printed using the latest photochemical printing technology. Arthur Alfaro, 21MedTech CEO and Director, commented, “We are proud of the recognition Prof. Becker’s has received for exemplary work in polymer chemistry. The Carl S. Marvel Award is only the most recent acknowledgment of his growing list of distinguished work. These polymers represent the greatest achievement in medical resorbable technology in 40 years.” Earlier this year Prof. Becker was awarded a $2 million grant for his work in the development of a postoperative pain management product. It is based on Becker’s Cyprex™ PEU poly(ester urea) programmable drug delivery technology licensed to 21MedTech LLC. This initiative to commercialize a non-opiate analgesic is being co-developed with Merck & Co, 21MedTech, and the University of Akron. Parallel clinical development programs in postoperative pain management therapies using unrelated drugs are being explored by Merck and 21MedTech.
