VIENNA, Austria, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ZONARE Medical Systems, a developer of next generation ultrasound technology, will announce the appointment of Cornel Schoelgens as Managing Director Europe at the annual European Congress of Radiology (ECR) being held March 3-7, 2006. Schoelgens joins ZONARE with more than 20 years of experience in the area of diagnostic imaging. He will be responsible for expanding the company’s revolutionary Zone Sonography(TM) technology throughout Europe, one of the world’s largest ultrasound markets.

Prior to joining ZONARE, Schoelgens held various positions of increasing responsibility at GE Medical Systems and Acuson. As managing director of Acuson, he was in charge of establishing the company as a major player in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Under his leadership the German division of Acuson developed into the largest subsidiary within the company’s international business.
Most recently, Schoelgens served as managing director for SonoSite in Germany, Europe’s largest ultrasound market. Schoelgens received an electronic engineering education and holds a biomedical degree issued by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, State of Baden Wuerttemberg.
