George “Buzz” Kenney has launched a new medical device firm, SIband LLC, with a simple idea — remove the “ouch” factor from hospital bandages, especially for patients with fragile skin, such as children and the elderly.
The technology would use an electronic device, half the size of an iPhone, to deliver vibrational energy to reduce the “peel force” on the bandage’s adhesive so it can be removed painlessly, without disrupting the wound.
The bandage market is estimated to be $20 billion per year. But Kenney said that in a year of looking for funding for the company.
