San Diego-based medical device maker Volcano Corp. will be laying off 170 manufacturing employees in Rancho Cordova by Dec. 16.
The move will bring the local employment for Volcano to fewer than 100 employees. At its peak, the company had nearly 700 employees at the local plant, which is at 2870 Kilgore Road.
Volcano (NASDAQ: VOLC) is a developer and manufacturer of precision guided therapy tools for diagnosis and therapy of vascular disease. Volcano manufactures catheters and intravascular guidance technologies.
