ST. LOUIS, June 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ulrich medicalUSA, Inc., today announced the U.S. market release of rectangular lateral endplates for the obelisc Vertebral Body Replacement System which is a spinal implant device used in complex spine surgery for trauma/tumor applications.
The new titanium endplates are available in a 20mm width and 35mm, 45mm, and 55mm lengths with multiple degrees of lordotic options ranging from 0° to 15° each, which can be assembled to create a total of 30° of lordosis. These options provide for patient-specific customization of the implant to match each patient’s unique anatomical requirements. In addition, the plates have been designed with large graft windows to allow for improved fusion at the implant site and the endplates incorporate strategically-positioned spikes which engage the boney endplate to minimize migration while in-situ.
“The addition of lateral endplates to the obelisc product portfolio provides a needed lateral approach option for this market-leading device for both MIS and open surgical techniques,” said Tom Carter, Senior Marketing Manager, ulrich medicalUSA. “Overall, with this lateral addition, the patented, gear-driven obelisc cage now offers one of the broadest ranges of sizing and surgical approach options available in the U.S. today in expandable corpectomy cage technologies.”
Hans Stover, President and Chief Executive Officer, ulrich medicalUSA added “ulrich will continue to lead the spine industry in clinical and technological advancements of vertebral body replacement devices for the foreseeable future.”
