(St. Louis, MO, Jan. 11, 2019) St. Louis-based Pluton Biosciences launched today a new investment offering through local crowdfunding platform Nvsted. Pluton is also seeking to raise additional funds from accredited investors through a separate Regulation D offering. Together, the offerings will propel the biosciences startup beyond its first major discovery toward its goal of becoming a global leader in assay-based microbial research and discovery.

Pluton screens billions of microorganisms in diverse soil samples to find new bacteria, fungi and viruses to solve important environmental and medical problems. Pluton’s first discovery was new bacteria (patent pending) to kill the mosquito Aedes aegypti, which carries a number of viral diseases, most prominently Zika, dengue and yellow fever.

The first round of the Pluton funding campaign launched today at www.nvstedwithus.com/companies/plutonbio and is open for investments as small as $1,000. Initiated by the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, Nvsted is the first Title III funding portal in the nation organized by an economic development agency. The platform is unique in that it only hosts businesses that are located or employ workers in the St. Louis region. Accredited investors seeking to invest sums over $30,000 will have access to a Regulation D offering by contacting Pluton directly.

Pluton Biosciences plans to use the investment money to add key staff to its team of scientists and engineers, acquire new lab equipment, expand efforts to commercialize the firm’s recent discoveries and fund a path for new research and discovery.

“Pluton Biosciences aspires to solve global problems by discovering natural, beneficial microbes already living in the soil,” said Pluton CEO Charlie Walch. “By partnering with global producers to create natural bioproducts for a variety of industries, we can help ensure a sustainable future for our planet. We are very excited to tell our story through the Nvsted platform and to support our hometown’s aspiration to become a destination city for life science startups and entrepreneurs.”
