Smart Instrument For Tissue Damage Assessment Developed

ScienceDaily (May 5, 2008) — New technology may allow surgeons to make a precise diagnosis and be better equipped for making accurate decisions during treatment. It has the potential to determine the level of tissue damage in patients with osteo-arthritis, sports injuries and other conditions affecting bone and cartilage. Professor Oloyede said that the device, which he calls a “smarthroscope”, may be able to reduce the cost of surgery, eliminate unnecessary surgery, and could be useful in developing countries.
