Scottish Biomedical Ltd, based at the West of Scotland Science Park in Glasgow, is to invest £1.5 million (including nearly half a million pounds from the Scottish Executive) in advanced stem cell technologies. This announcement reinforces Scotland’s position as a global leader in stem cell research. Scottish Biomedical, who are already well known for their cell-signalling expertise, now intend to develop stem cell screening technologies based on innovative inverted light reporter systems. These systems will delve deeper than ever before into the mechanism of action of drugs in the human body, and will further advance the drug discovery process.
