As the International AIDS Conference gets set to open Sunday in Washington, scientists are employing a four-letter word that hasn’t been used much in connection with the deadly virus: cure. There is a growing sense of optimism among researchers and advocates that a “functional cure” for the deadly disease may be coming and also that the arsenal of weapons that can prevent new infections has greatly improved.
