FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The concern stressed by experts that migratory wild birds could cause an even more severe outbreak of Avian Influenza (bird flu) this Fall has prompted Ocean Bio-Chem, Inc. (NASDAQ: OBCI) to repeat its public announcement that its PERFORMACIDE® Hard Surface Disinfectant is the perfect choice to disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.
PERFORMACIDE® is an EPA registered virucide that kills Influenza A, which is, according to the Federal Government’s Center for Disease Control (CDC), a risk for anyone with certain common illnesses or infections who come in contact with these sick or dead birds. Humans infected by Avian Influenza can suffer a high fever, severe respiratory infection, pneumonia and even death.
More than 48 million chickens and turkeys were culled during this year’s bird flu epidemic; 10 percent of all egg-laying hens in the U.S. were killed to stop the disease’s spread. Experts fear that migratory birds will bring the disease to billions of birds being raised in poultry producing centers on the East and West Coast this fall. The economic impact of bird flu this year, mostly in the Midwest, topped $3.3 billion, according to experts.
Ocean Bio-Chem’s product, PERFORMACIDE®, is easy to use, requiring no wiping or rinsing. It can be sprayed, mopped or sponged and allowed to air dry so there is no risk of spreading microorganisms to other surfaces. PERFORMACIDE® is approved for use in hospitals, medical facilities, clinics, ambulances and veterinary hospitals. The activated solution remains effective for up to 15 days compared to 24 hours for ordinary bleach.
PERFORMACIDE® is also the perfect choice to disinfect dogs’ water bowls, cages, furniture and pet toys to stop the nationwide spread of Canine Influenza A virus.
About PERFORMACIDE®: Performacide® is a patented, point-of-use, CIO2 generator pouch system. When the pouch is immersed in water, it creates a concentrated solution for disinfecting, sanitizing and deodorizing. PERFORMACIDE® is a hospital grade disinfectant, sanitizer, tuberculocide, virucide, fungicide and deodorizer. The product is manufactured by Odor Star, LLC. with offices in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
