Most Nonagenarians with STEMI Benefit from Primary PCI

TCTMD -- Many very elderly patients who present with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are candidates for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), standing a good chance of surviving at least 6 months, according to a small study published online August 2, 2010, ahead of print in the American Journal of Cardiology. However, mortality risk rises steeply for patients who develop cardiogenic shock.
