AGAWAM, Mass., March 20th /PRNewswire/ -- MicroTest Laboratories Inc., (MTL) announces that it will be manufacturing two commercial pharmaceutical products in 2006. These products will further expand MTL’s growing portfolio of contract manufacturing activities. MTL’s entry into contract manufacturing began with clinical scale fill/finish of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology products such as vaccines and cancer therapeutics. Dr. Steven Richter, President and CEO stated today, “We have been manufacturing phase I/II products for the last three years. The new $5.3 million expansion was completed in August 2005, and will allow us to expand into contract manufacturing of commercial scale products. Since 2003, we have created approximately 25 life science jobs as a result of the expansion. Working with early stage and virtual companies has allowed us to follow those companies’ product into the commercial fill/finish market.” MTL will expand again this year with another considerably sized build out. This expansion will cost roughly $2.0 million and will consist of three new manufacturing suites. Dr. Richter said these suites will be the foundation of our business strategy for many years to come. “Our plans for 2007 are aggressive and will require an additional 7 million in financing. This final build-out will allow us to manufacture large scale bio-technology and pharmaceutical products such as the recombinant botulinum vaccine manufactured in Agawam during 2003.” Our core technology and ability to maintain our skilled workforce have been instrumental in our continued success and growth. Dr. Richter also indicated that the aggressive 2007 strategy forecasts sales revenues nearly double those of 2005.
MTL is a privately held contract laboratory (CRO) and a contract manufacturer (CMO) with the majority of activities in the life science industry. In addition to contract manufacturing, MTL tests medical devices, biologics and pharmaceuticals for contamination related to manufacturing of these products. MTL also has a business unit that focuses on cleanroom testing and validation for both the hospital pharmacy and the life science industries. The biotechnology and pharmaceutical services include formulation, aseptic filling and stability testing.
