Consumer-tech companies like Google Inc. are venturing deeper into the medical-device industry’s territory these days, but Medtronic CEO and Chairman Omar Ishrak isn’t rattled.
I recently asked Ishrak about Medtronic executive Dr. Stephen Oesterle’s 2014 prediction that Google will be the company’s “arch-competitor” in 20 years. Oesterle argued then that Google’s massive R&D budget and imagination could make it a formidable competitor.
