TORONTO, June 4, 2018 /CNW/ - Brain Injury Canada and MedicAlert are thrilled to announce a national partnership to bring support and visibility to individuals living with acquired brain injury (ABI).
Brain Injury Canada is proud to partner with MedicAlert, the largest membership-based charity in Canada and the leading provider of emergency medical of emergency medical information services. The partnership will support Brain Injury Canada's mission to enhance the quality of life of individuals and families/caregivers living with brain injury.
Due to the invisible nature of brain injury, symptoms such as slowness to act, lack of impulse control, failure to respond to directions or communication challenges are often behavior that is misinterpreted as defiance. With MedicAlert protection, there's an effective way to more easily identify brain injury survivors and ensure that they receive an appropriate response and support and raise awareness about brain injury throughout police services, emergency response and the criminal justice system.
"This partnership was born out of the need to find a solution to ensure those with acquired brain injury are treated appropriately by first responders and to mitigate the downward spiral that can happen in these situations" says Michelle McDonald, Executive Director at Brain Injury Canada.
"We are very pleased to be partnering with Brain Injury Canada so that the brain injury community can be better served," says Robert Ridge, President of MedicAlert Foundation Canada. "Capturing and communicating critical information is invaluable for emergency responders and empowers them to make informed medical decisions. The partnership with Brain Injury Canada will improve their ability to quickly assist people living with brain injuries and help save lives."
