Key SFBC International, Inc. Miami Assets Acquired By Allied Research International

TORONTO, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ - Allied Research International (ARI), Canada’s leading contract research organization (CRO), announced today that it has acquired key assets of South Florida Bioavailability Clinic International’s (SFBC) Miami, Florida operations. The acquired assets include a fully-functional clinical laboratory and equipment, and a 46-station cardiac monitoring suite.

“These assets will be re-located to ARI’s new state-of-the-art, 150-bed Phase 1 clinic in Miami that opened this spring. ARI will also employ selected leading staff from SFBC’s Miami operations,” said Dr. Piyush Patel MD, CEO and Founder of ARI.

ARI now has significantly expanded capacity to perform complex Phase 1 and special population studies in the Miami area. There is a large need for these types of studies and for which few other CROs specialize.

The expanded facilities in Miami add to ARI’s 80-bed Phase 1 unit in Toronto, Canada, bringing its total capacity to over 230 Phase I beds.

“SFBC and ARI have been cooperating to transfer selected ongoing SFBC Phase 1 studies to ARI’s clinic, and we are working closely with SFBC’s former clients to prevent any potential compromise of ongoing studies and to ensure the safety of the patients involved,” said Dr. Patel. “SFBC senior management has been very professional in bringing about an orderly wind down of their operations and ensuring a flawless and safe transfer of their studies.”

“With the addition of the SFBC assets and staff to our existing infrastructure in Miami, we will approach full capacity within the year,” he said.

ARI’s Miami clinic was designed to conduct complex Phase I studies in special populations. The greater Miami area provides a large pool of experienced, healthy volunteers and subjects with specific medical conditions needed for special population studies. Since opening this spring, ARI’s Miami operations have experienced strong interest from biotech and pharmaceutical company clients. The addition of an onsite clinical laboratory in Miami provides ARI with an enhanced service offering and an additional revenue source.

ARI is a privately-held contract research organization headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Founded in 1989 by Dr. Piyush Patel MD, a board-certified allergist, ARI has grown to more than 400 employees internationally. ARI provides the full range of services from Phase 1 to Phase 3 studies, specializing in allergy, asthma and dermatology. ARI is the only full-service CRO with an Environmental Exposure Chamber, a proprietary technology used in developing anti-allergic drugs. Other services include data management, statistical projects and medical monitoring.
