Invitrogen Corporation Acquires VisiGen Biotechnologies, Inc. for $20 Million

A biotechnology company founded by six University of Houston faculty members in 2000 and spun off as an independent company two years later has been sold for $20 million. VisiGen Biotechnologies Inc. was acquired by Carlsbad, Calif.-based Invitrogen Corp., which subsequently merged with Applied Biosystems to form Life Technologies, a publicly traded company.
