Dublin, Ireland, 15th May, 2014 – ICON plc, (NASDAQ: ICLR) a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries, today announced that it was the only CRO to receive the prestigious Informatica Innovation Award for Improved Decisions.

Carefully chosen from more than 5,000 Informatica customers, Innovation Award winners recognise data-centric organisations that have demonstrated leadership in using Informatica solutions to drive innovation and business advantage.

ICON uses Informatica’s Master Data Management (MDM) solution to create a consolidated and reliable view of clinical trial master data, delivering 360-degree insights into study and site related program activities. The solution is a key element of ICON’s information platform, ICONIK, which enables more informed, data-driven decisions regarding the clinical trial process, including the effective use of monitoring resources, patient treatment and safety and site performance. Commenting on the award, Tom O’Leary, ICON’s Chief Information Officer, said: “We are delighted to be recognised for innovation and for helping our customers reduce the time and cost of drug development by enabling them to make more informed decisions. We are achieving market-leading innovation through the combination of our industry expertise and enabling technologies such as ICONIK, Firecrest and ADDPLAN. As a trusted partner to our customers, ICON remains committed to drive further innovation to enhance the drug development process.”

“Each year, Informatica Innovation Awards winners demonstrate the transformative power of clean, safe and connected data in a business or societal context,” said Marge Breya, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Informatica. “We are privileged to work with such innovative and forward-looking organisations who are not only transforming their businesses, but also changing the world, by putting data at the centre of everything they do. We congratulate them on their achievements and are excited to be playing a part in their successes.”

Thirteen winners across ten categories were announced at the annual Informatica user conference, Informatica World 2014, which took place in Las Vegas this week.
