Florida Entrepreneur Sells Medical Device Company New Wave Surgical For Over $100 Million

R. Alexander Gomez’s decision to leave an Ivy League institution’s medical school to form a company on his idea for a medical device paid off big time as his company was sold for more than $100 million.

Pompano Beach-based New Wave Surgical Corp. was acquired by Ireland-based Covidien last week, said Gomez, the founder and now former president of New Wave Surgical. He declined to disclose the exact price but said it was more than nine figures.
