CHICAGO, Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The second day of AdvaMed 2014: The MedTech Conference at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill., features plenary speakers who will explore what is being done on the local and national levels to promote medical technology innovation, as well as an in-depth discussion of how the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) policies are affecting the industry.
The morning plenary session will feature Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), who will speak about their experience shaping policies that impact the medical technology industry.
The plenary lunch will feature a lively dialogue as FDA Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg will sit down for an interview conducted by Susan Dentzer, senior policy advisor, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. After the interview, Dentzer will moderate a discussion on agency policies with FDA experts Mark Deem, managing partner of the Foundry LLC, Lisa McGiffert, manager of the Consumers Union Safe Patient Project, and Josh Rising, M.D., director, medical devices, The Pew Charitable Trusts.
In addition to the plenary sessions, Ernst & Young will unveil their seventh annual "Pulse of the Industry" report on the state of the medical technology sector, and a series of CEOs Unplugged sessions on Tuesday will address issues including: private health exchanges, the impact of the 2014 elections, the state of the MedTech ecosystem, maximizing market share, and supply chain management. Other panel discussions on Tuesday will explore: global medical device development, mobile medical apps, partnerships with Accountable Care Organizations, and next-generation sequencing, among other topics.
Tuesday also will feature nearly 50 Company Presentations nine-minute sessions for emerging growth medical technology companies to present to angel, venture capital and private equity investors, as well as corporate business development executives.
