Adding yogurt to your diet might lower your risk of high blood pressure, according to new research. Yogurt-eaters in a long-term study were less likely to develop high blood pressure and, on average, had lower systolic blood pressure than those who avoided yogurt, according to research presented at the American Heart Association’s High Blood Pressure Research scientific sessions. The findings, which dietitians say may be caused by calcium intake, could prove useful for a large number of Americans. Sixty-eight million – one in three adults -- have high blood pressure, which increases their risk of heart disease and stroke, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
