Cough Syrup Warning Issued

Health officials in Canada are warning consumers not to use generic brands of “Cough Syrup DM” because the product contains twice the amount of the stated active ingredient, dextromethorphan. The manufacture of the product, Jamp Pharmaceutical Corp., is recalling the product at the request of Health Canada. The product is sold under a variety of brand names, including, People First, PharmaChoice,Procurity Encounter, ARP Preferred, Medicine Centre, United Pharmacy and Western Family.Health officials said consuming the product could result in light-headedness, fatigue and slurred speech. Young children under the age of three may be vulnerable to more serious side effects, including seizures.
