CBT Plus Short-Term Drug Course Tops for Insomnia, University Laval Study

MedPage Today -- WHEELING, W.Va., May 19 -- Long-term cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) combined with short-term medication may be the best approach to persistent insomnia, said researchers who conducted a randomized trial. The one-year remission rate for patients who received zolpidem (Ambien) along with CBT for six weeks, followed by CBT alone for an additional six months, was 68%.
