CAS Medical Systems, Inc. Announces FORE-SIGHT(TM) Abstract Presentation At American Society Of Anesthesiologists Meeting

BRANFORD, Conn., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CAS Medical Systems, Inc. , a medical device company focused on innovative, non- invasive vital signs monitoring, announced today that an abstract demonstrating the utility of the FORE-SIGHT Cerebral Oximeter in clinical studies will be presented at the upcoming American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting in Chicago. The abstract, entitled “The Application of Absolute Cerebral Oximetry During Aortic Surgery” will be presented by Dr. Gregory Fischer of Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY on October 15, 2006 and is available on the ASA website at (http://www.asahq.org).

“We believe this data clearly demonstrates the value of absolute cerebral oximetry in identifying catastrophic events during high risk cardiovascular surgery,” commented Louis P. Scheps, President and CEO of CAS Medical Systems, Inc. “We remain on track to launch FORE-SIGHT by year end, utilizing a network of specialty distributors to sell FORE-SIGHT in the U.S.” Mr. Scheps continued, “The use of sophisticated specialty distributors with established customer relationships in the cardiovascular arena will enable CASMED to quickly penetrate key markets. This model complements our current distribution structure and allows us to expand into additional markets as we continue to gather clinical data to support broadened applications of absolute cerebral oximetry.”

About the FORE-SIGHT Cerebral Oximeter

Our initial market focus is on high risk cardiovascular surgeries, of which there are about 700,000 performed each year in the U.S. Additional market opportunities include a broad range of general surgical procedures and postoperative and critical care settings. Protecting the brain from low oxygen levels during these procedures is an important goal of every surgical team because the brain is highly vulnerable to oxygen deprivation. At normal body temperatures, damage to brain cells due to lack of oxygen can occur after just a few seconds. The FORE-SIGHT Cerebral Oximeter will provide new information to allow clinicians to monitor and respond to instances of brain tissue oxygen deprivation before damage to the brain occurs.
