BioSphere Medical, Inc. Reports First Quarter 2006 Financial Results

ROCKLAND, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2006--BioSphere Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq: BSMD - News), a medical device company that pioneered the use of bioengineered microspheres to treat uterine fibroids, hypervascularized tumors and vascular malformations, today reported that total revenues for the first quarter of 2006 were a record $5.27 million, compared with total revenues of $4.43 million for the first quarter of 2005, an increase of 19%. In the first quarter of 2006, revenues in the United States were $3.63 million, compared to revenues of $2.92 million in the first quarter of 2005, an increase of 24%. Revenues outside of the United States were $1.64 million for the first quarter of 2006, compared to revenues of $1.51 million in the first quarter of 2005. Global sales of Embosphere® Microspheres were $4.43 million in the first quarter of 2006, compared to $3.52 million in the first quarter of 2005, an increase of 26%.
