IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BIOLASE, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIOL), the global leader in dental lasers, and Healthy Smiles For Kids of Orange County, a leading nonprofit organization that is improving the oral health of local children, recently held an educational training session to teach University of Southern California (USC) Pediatric Dental faculty and residents who are associated with Healthy Smiles how to use dental lasers for a variety of common pediatric dental procedures. The training event was held on Saturday, August 18 at the BIOLASE global headquarters in the BIOLASE Learning Center in Irvine, California. “Our ongoing partnership with BIOLASE, including the recent pediatric educational session with USC faculty and residents, ensures our community is better positioned to receive the most innovative oral health solutions available today,” said Ria Berger, chief executive officer of Healthy Smiles. The training provided the opportunity for residents and faculty members to learn about the benefits of dental lasers. Attendees were trained in laser physics and safety, laser tissue interactions, restorative dentistry using minimal anesthesia and pediatric procedures including frenectomies for tongue-tie patients. All participants received certification from BIOLASE in dental laser use upon completion of the training session. “The next generation of practitioners must be educated about the most innovative dental technologies in order to provide the best possible patient experience - one that is less-invasive with less anesthesia, pain and anxiety,” said Chief Dental Officer of BIOLASE, Dr. Sam Low. “The training session we held this weekend in partnership with Healthy Smiles and USC is part of greater efforts to help shape the future of dentistry, to increase adoption of dental lasers to improve patient outcomes and ensure that dental professionals are tapping into all tools that are available to them.” As previously announced, BIOLASE has donated the Waterlase iPlus® laser to the Healthy Smiles Garden Grove clinic as an ongoing educational resource and a Waterlase Express™ laser will also be installed in a Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County Smile Mobile, a mobile clinic that visits elementary schools throughout Orange County providing preventative care to needy children.
