BERKELEY, Calif., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer HealthCare today announced a charitable gift of $100,000 to the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) to fund activities of the National Youth Leadership Institute, a program designed to develop the next generation of leaders within the bleeding disorders community. The contribution, made by the Bayer Foundation, is one of many made each year to fund the programs of specific advocacy organizations that serve the needs of people affected by the conditions that Bayer products treat -- hemophilia, cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Each year The National Youth Leadership Institute offers 20 - 30 selected participants an opportunity to attend two weekend training sessions, focusing on leadership development and problem-solving skills. The group also has an experiential curriculum, which includes prevention programs and activities to be implemented in their respective communities. The program has a reputation within the community as being one of the most strategically important initiatives currently underway.
"We're grateful to receive this generous grant from Bayer HealthCare," said Dr. Alan Kinniburgh, CEO of the National Hemophilia Foundation. "This contribution will help fund the National Youth Leadership Institute and will encourage and equip young adults to be active leaders in the bleeding disorders community."
In addition to the training provided to participants, NHF encourages local chapters to provide a liaison/mentor to the young participants to further ensure the success of local youth initiatives.
"Bayer is committed to supporting programs that focus on encouraging and developing young adults to become active leaders in the bleeding disorders community," said Terry Tenbrunsel, vice president of sales and marketing, Bayer HealthCare. "We are pleased to support the NHF and this important program as we drive toward our common goal of improving the lives of people living with hemophilia."
