Wright Medical Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:WMGI), a global orthopaedic medical device company, today announced the limited introduction of its new MICRONAIL(TM) intramedullary distal radius implant, a next-generation, minimally-invasive system that provides immediate fracture stabililization utilizing fixed-angle locking screws. The patented and FDA-cleared MICRONAIL(TM) system is believed to be the world’s first distal radius system that is totally contained within the intramedullary bone canal of the wrist. The device is designed to be implanted through a two centimeter incision on the radial side of the wrist, and resides completely inside of the radius bone while the fracture heals. The MICRONAIL(TM) system represents a significant advantage over traditional distal radius plates, which are inserted through larger incisions and affix to the outer surface of the bone.
