William J. Riebel, M.D., M.S., President Of Lakewood Hospital Medical Staff

LAKEWOOD, Ohio, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- William J. Riebel, M.D., M.S., board-certified in internal medicine and infectious disease, is the President of the Lakewood Hospital medical staff for the term commencing Jan. 1, 2005. Marvin D. Shie III, M.D., outgoing President, turned the gavel over to Dr. Riebel at the January 3 Medical Executive Committee meeting.

Dr. Riebel is the Medical Director of Infection Surveillance and Medical Education at Lakewood Hospital. His areas of special interest include medical microbiology, vancomycin-resistant organisms, Legionnaire’s disease and tuberculosis. Dr. Riebel has practiced in the heart of Cleveland’s West Shore community for 21 years. His office is located in the Lakewood Hospital Professional Building at 14601 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.

Dr. Riebel earned his undergraduate and Master of Science degrees at Lawrence University in Wisconsin He earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois where he was a James Scholar. Dr. Riebel completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. He also completed a special fellowship in medical microbiology at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Riebel was appointed to the medical staff at Lakewood Hospital in 1983.

In addition to his private medical practice, Dr. Riebel is a clinical instructor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He is the chairman of the Infection Control Committee and chairman of the Medical Education Committee at Lakewood Hospital. He is a past chairman of the Quality Improvement Committee at Lakewood Hospital.

Dr. Riebel is a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases Society of America and Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. He is the author and/or co- author of numerous articles, which have been published in national medical journals. Dr. Riebel is an invited speaker and has given presentations to numerous physician, nurse and consumer groups on infectious disease topics. He has also served as a medical expert on local news programs and in the written press on infectious disease topics.

Dr. Riebel and his wife reside in Bay Village and have three children. He is a past member of the parent advisory committee to the Bay Village Board of Education and he is an active member of Bay United Methodist Church.
