Tennessee Biotechnology Association’s BioGENEius Challenge Attracts Tennessee’s Brightest High School Students

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tennessee Biotechnology Association has invited Tennessee's brightest high school students to compete in the Tennessee State BioGENEius Challenge on February 18, 2006, at Pollard Technology and Conference Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. A panel of top scientists and educators, including Dr. Reinhold Mann, Associate Laboratory Director for Biological and Environmental Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Dr. David Millhorn, Vice President for Research at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will select the top two students or student teams to represent Tennessee in the regional event.

Challenge winners will each receive $1,000 cash award to be split between the students and their school. They will then represent Tennessee at the Sanofi-Aventis Southeast Regional BioGENEius Challenge being held on March 4, 2006, at the Cool Springs Life Sciences Center in Franklin, Tennessee. Regional winners will go on to compete for a $7,500 scholarship in an international competition.

Both events are open to the public. The state competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. Admission is free.
