San Diego, CA, June 2, 2014 – Sensulin announced that Mike Moradi, CEO, will be presenting at the 2014 BIO International Convention. Hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), this year’s global event for biotechnology will take place June 23-26 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. Moradi will speak on Wednesday, June 25th, at 4:15PM PT in the Solana Beach room. Sensulin is developing a glucose-responsive insulin for type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with the goal of creating a 24 hour insulin to eliminate the need for separate basal and mealtime injections. At the BIO convention, Sensulin will provide an overview of its insulin program, its broader stimulus-responsive drug delivery technology, and will address key differences between Sensulin’s approach and the competing technologies.
Said Moradi, “Until there is a cure for diabetes, the world needs better insulin, and we intend to deliver on this promise.”
Sensulin also announced the addition of Christopher A. Rhodes, Ph.D. as its Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Rhodes is a pharmaceutical technologist with deep experience in product development, translating formulation, device, and delivery technologies from research into clinical development. He played a key role in the development of several commercial products for diabetes and other indications, including Byetta (exenatide injection, FDA 2005), Bydureon (exenatide extended-release for injectable suspension, FDA 2012), and Afrezza (insulin inhalation powder, FDA under review 2014). Dr. Rhodes is an organic chemist training at NYU (BS), UCLA (PhD), and Yale (Post Doc). He lives with his family in San Diego, CA.
Dr. Rhodes noted that “The Sensulin technology has great potential to benefit diabetic patients, as well as opportunities for triggered delivery in other therapeutic areas. I am excited to be involved in developing the next generation of insulin technologies with delivery tailored to the patients’ needs”
Sensulin further announced the establishment of its shared laboratory facilities at 11555 Sorrento Valley Road, Suite 102; San Diego, California 92121. The R&D operations will be managed by Sensulin’s CTO Dr. Chris Rhodes, and are co-located with Dr. Rhodes’ company, Drug Delivery Experts. The company is also exhibiting at the BIO conference in booth #5449, as part of the Innovation Zone. Sensulin received a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from the National Science Foundation, and the company’s participation is partially sponsored by NSF.
