REBOL Software Technology Makes Debut In Healthcare Market With Formation Of Risen World Technologies

SAN ANTONIO, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Biomedical development firm Vital Needs International (VNI) announced today the acquisition of REBOL(R) software and formation of a new company, Risen World Technologies. The new company will integrate wireless communications based on REBOL(R) software into many of Vital Needs' medical devices, allowing real-time medical monitoring and communications. Risen World will also license REBOL(R)-based wireless applications to other industry sectors looking for a swift and secure communications infrastructure (http://www.rebol.com ).

REBOL dramatically improves the way people and applications communicate, collaborate, share and process information over the Internet and other networks. Applications developed in REBOL use a fraction of the memory that bulky, traditional operating systems use, operate more securely, run faster and take less bandwidth, making it perfectly suited for medical applications designed by VNI.

Richard Watson, M.D., VNI chief technology officer, said REBOL is the ideal platform to take medicine to the next level of patient care and service. "The integration of REBOL into healthcare products allows remote, real-time monitoring of patients and can be used for routine functions such as fetal monitoring to more critical situations that require immediate care," said Watson.

The first device that will showcase the REBOL system is Freedom Patch(TM), a wireless, waterproof, beltless contraction monitoring patch that securely transmits fetal heart rate and contraction data to hand-held devices, such as cell phones, and to base monitors.

"The patch has a small, built-in transmitter and now, by utilizing REBOL, can dispatch the baby's heartbeat over a cell phone to the patient's physician in real-time. This type of advancement will radically improve medicine and patient care," said Watson.

Carl Sassenrath, renowned Silicon Valley system designer, developed REBOL to enable more efficient communication between systems. In 1985, Sassenrath was responsible for the design and implementation of the highly acclaimed Amiga multi-tasking operating system, the first of its kind for personal computers, as well as developing the first two-button mouse. He likens REBOL to having a personalized mailbox versus a random box at the post office. Your mailbox via REBOL receives direct, pre-sorted, organized information that is prioritized per content, free of insertions and junk mail. The information is concise, streamlined and allows for improved work flow because each piece is customized in categories that the user identifies.

Risen World Technologies CEO Ron Hicks says his company will license the REBOL applications they develop to other business sectors looking for a high- speed, secure and strong communications platform for their operations. He thinks financial institutions, military/defense organizations and medical regulatory bodies will embrace the technology. "We are excited about the possibilities of integrating REBOL into not only medical products but other industries as well," said Hicks.

"Once the industry understands what REBOL can do for their end users, we believe that it will become the preferred operating system for telecommunications providers, software specialists and wireless networks," said Heather Arrington, Risen World Technologies development manager and former senior manager of business development at Handango, a leading provider of mobile downloads. Arrington also sees REBOL supporting larger graphic and program downloads securely and rapidly, a niche that continues to elude the wireless technology sector.

Former Director of Dell Computer Corp. and well-known business strategist Peter Strople noted that San Antonio's bio-medical community and Austin's high-technology sectors are merging into research clusters that are resulting in a whole new genre of biotechnology in Texas. He expects Risen World Technologies and VNI to be at the forefront of this move.
