Nevada Cancer Institute Names Prominent Researcher Director

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) President Heather Murren today announced Nicholas J. Vogelzang, M.D., a nationally-recognized leader in oncology research, as the institute’s first director. As director, Dr. Vogelzang will set the direction and recruit leaders for NVCI’s research programs in clinical, basic, and population science.

Prior to joining NVCI, Dr. Vogelzang was the director of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center. In this role, Dr. Vogelzang was responsible for coordinating the overall scientific direction of the university and its role within the local medical community. The University of Chicago Cancer Research Center is a National Cancer Institute designated Clinical Cancer Center. Dr. Vogelzang’s primary focus as a physician-researcher is in clinical trials for genitourinary malignancies and mesothelioma. He is a recognized expert in new therapies for patients with metastatic kidney cancer, including genetic therapy, new cytokine therapy, and combination cytokine therapy. He also conducts large-scale national trials in the field of prostate cancer and mesothelioma.

Dr. Vogelzang received his M.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
