LSU Healthcare Network Taps New IDX Flowcast Business Services Outsourcing To Advance Business Success

BURLINGTON, Vt., and NEW ORLEANS, June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IDX Systems Corporation , and LSU Healthcare Network (LSUHN) today announced an agreement under which LSUHN will outsource significant portions of its business office and technology functions through the IDX Flowcast(TM) Business Services Outsourcing (Flowcast BSO) solution. The agreement is expected to reduce costs, improve profitability, increase patient access and enable LSUHN to focus on its core mission: excellence in patient care.

The Flowcast BSO solution is a new offering from IDX based upon IDX’s proven revenue cycle management solution, Flowcast, and the best-practices developed by IDX in its 35-year history supporting healthcare organizations. The Flowcast BSO solution will enable healthcare enterprises such as LSUHN to increase profitability and drive productivity. The Flowcast BSO solution provides the technology resources necessary to improve the revenue cycle, the services required to deploy and support the technology, the human resources necessary to manage the improved revenue cycle, and the best practices required to finely tune the revenue cycle. IDX expects to drive quality and performance for each BSO customer using the principles of Six Sigma(R). IDX will use Six Sigma to drive revenue cycle process improvements at BSO customer sites. Customers will experience the benefits of Six Sigma in their own environment, as well as through IDX’s corporate-wide commitment to the methodology.

LSUHN is a non-profit organization formed in 1997 to support the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and its delivery of medical services. Under this multi-year agreement with LSUHN, IDX is providing LSUHN with complete, integrated revenue cycle management technologies and services, including the automated charge capture functionality from TouchWorks(TM), a leading ambulatory electronic medical record solution from Allscripts Healthcare Solutions . IDX and LSUHN intend for LSUHN to become a best-practice model for future IDX Flowcast BSO implementations across the United States.

LSUHN’s selection of IDX’s outsourcing solution was catalyzed by LSUHN’s strategic decision to focus on its clinical mission and, at the same time, produce measurable improvement in business results. Large physician organizations, hospitals and IDNs continue to balance the competing demands of their clinical and business operations. Significant enhancements to an organization’s business performance can create financial flexibility and free resources to promote quality of care and clinical results.

“The LSU Healthcare Network is continually evaluating ways to improve operational effectiveness. In addition to delivering high quality healthcare, this partnership with IDX affords us the opportunity to maximize our use of systems, process improvement and technology to remain on the cutting edge of the healthcare industry,” said Barbara Guerard, CEO of the LSU Healthcare Network. “IDX has proven expertise in this area, and we look forward to working with them in this new business model.”

According to Thomas W. Butts, President and Chief Operating Officer of IDX Systems Corporation, “Working with Flowcast BSO frees LSU Healthcare Network doctors to aim straight for the critical mission of patient care. Flowcast BSO is another advancement for IDX as we leverage our significant domain expertise, our strategic alliance with Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, and our 35-year commitment to optimizing results for our customer partners. We built Flowcast BSO using Six Sigma methodologies. We use Six Sigma to drive process quality and performance at Flowcast BSO customer sites and we believe LSU Healthcare Network will be among those select organizations to champion and achieve overall industry best practices.”
