TOKYO, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Sir John Houghton, formerly Chief Executive of the Meteorological Office and a founder of the Hadley Center for Climate Prediction and Research, the Meteorological Office, U.K., received the Japan Prize for the pioneering research on atmospheric structure and composition based on his satellite observation technology and for promotion of international assessments of climate change. Dr. Akira Endo, Director of Biopharm Research Lab. Inc., Japan, was awarded the prize for his contribution to the discovery of the drug statin.
The Japan Prize is awarded to world-class scientists and technologists who are credited with original and outstanding achievements and who have contributed to advancement of science and technology, thereby furthering the cause of peace and the prosperity of mankind.
