ILA Local 1804-1 Contributes $25,000 To St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

NORTH BERGEN, N.J., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), Local 1804-1 has donated $25,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in support of its mission to eradicate pediatric catastrophic illnesses.

The Local 1804-1 donation will be used in an effort to develop new therapies for children with life-threatening illnesses. A Patron's Plaque will be placed in the hospital as a token of appreciation from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"Our members have been extremely generous over the years. Every year, members of Local 1804-1 donate money from their own pockets and look for a cause in which we can have an impact and help a family or several families that need assistance," ILA Local 1804-1 President Harold Daggett said. "Raising money for research is very important and something our members feel very strongly about. After some thought, we felt that the best place was at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital."

In the past, Local 1804-1 was instrumental in raising more than $50,000 in support of the Widows and Orphans Fund of the NYPD and FDNY and spearheaded a fund relief effort to help ILA families devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

ILA Local 1804-1 represents more than 1,500 members in the New York and New Jersey vicinity.
