Munich, November 15th 2010 – Hepa Wash GmbH is one of the semi-final winners of this year’s Eurecan European Venture Contest (EEVC). The Munich medical device company competed with over 1.000 entrepreneurs from the innovation sectors of ICT, Life Science and Cleantech from all over Europe who applied for the qualifying events of the 2010 edition of the EEVC.
“This success shows the thriving development of our company over the last three years,” says Dr. Bernhard Kreymann, CEO of Hepa Wash. In 2007 Hepa Wash applied for EEVC for the first time but wasn’t invited to present. By reaching the semi-final, Hepa Wash was able to convince an international jury and overcome many European competitors for the second time within few weeks: Hepa Wash was recently invited to showcase its patented liver support device at the MedTech Summit in October 2010 in Lausanne, Switzerland. Now Hepa Wash prepares for the next EEVC round. Companies chosen among the top 25 will participate in the EEVC final in Barcelona on 16 December 2010. The EEVC jury will award the best company of each innovation sector with a cash prize of 30.000 Euros.
About Hepa Wash GmbH
Hepa Wash GmbH, which is located in the “Munich Technology Center” (MTZ), works since its foundation in 2005 on a new liver support therapy, to reduce the high mortality of critically ill patients with liver failure. Recent studies revealed that existing therapies can hardly achieve any positive effects on survival of liver patients. However, the Hepa Wash procedure has a significantly increased detoxication capacity and is therefore expected to improve the survival rate of affected patients for at least 30 percent. Two in-vitro- and preclinical studies already showed the beneficial effects of the procedure. The clinical study was started in the II. medical department in the Hospital rechts der Isar in September 2010. First results are expected in the first quarter of 2011. For this study a TÜV-approved prototype of the device is used. In parallel to the pilot study the company is making the necessary preparations for the CE certification.
