CARROLLTON, Ga., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of integrated practice management and electronic medical records (EMR) software solutions for physicians' practices, was recently invited to participate on the Incentives Breakout Panel at the Secretarial Summit on Health Information Technology in Washington, D.C. The Summit, which was launched in July during the National Health Information Infrastructure (NHII) Conference, brought together key public and private industry executives as well as Congressional leaders to review and refine a strategic plan for the adoption of a national health information technology infrastructure. The United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Secretary Tommy Thompson has made enhancing the quality and safety of health care through the use of information technology one of his most important priorities.
"We were excited to have been invited to participate during the national Summit which we believe strengthens the commitment of the public sector to the healthcare industry and dedication to the future of modernizing healthcare," said Dr. John Durham, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Greenway who participated on the Incentives Panel. "Our message regarding incentives to the medical community for adopting technology revolves around correcting misinformation which often causes delays in the decision making process and pursuing financial incentives for individual practices and practitioners that take a leadership role in deploying HIT solutions. We are also committed to supporting the HIT initiative with a leadership role in educating the industry about the value and necessity for adopting and investing in their future."
In an Executive Order issued on April 27, 2004, President George W. Bush called for widespread deployment of health information technology within 10 years. As part of this announcement, he formed the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT). An important aspect of the President's initiative is the development of a nationwide interoperable health information technology infrastructure that can facilitate improvements in safety, quality, efficiency and care coordination.
Greenway continues its strategic position in participating at national conferences in order to educate legislators and healthcare leaders about the adoption and use of electronic medical records (EMR) technology. In June, the company presented at the Steering Committee Forum on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics held in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, and plans on presenting at several upcoming conferences and legislative summits this fall.
