EDS Awarded $59.1 Million, Three-Year Extension Of Oklahoma Medicaid Contract; Oklahoma’s Medicaid Management Information System A National Model

OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS has been awarded an approximately $59.1 million, three-year contract extension by the state of Oklahoma to continue processing healthcare provider claims and provide hardware and software upgrades for the state’s Medicaid Management Information System developed by EDS.

The contract extends a seven-year contract between EDS and the Oklahoma Health Care Authority that began in October 2000. Under the extension, EDS will continue operational support through 2010 and migrate the system to an enhanced user interface.

Last year, EDS processed more than 31 million health care claims in Oklahoma, distributing nearly $2.7 billion in Medicaid benefits for more than 600,000 low-income children and adults. More than 25,000 health care providers participate in the Oklahoma Medicaid program.

“EDS has worked with the state of Oklahoma to create a next generation MMIS that has become a model for system solutions within the Medicaid industry,” said Mike Fogarty, CEO of the Oklahoma Health Care Authority.

The base system developed for Oklahoma is in operation in three other states and currently is being implemented in four additional states.

The extension calls for EDS to continue to provide a variety of business process outsourcing (BPO) and fiscal agent services to the state, including claims processing, application development and maintenance, systems management including Web hosting, customer service help desk support for both provider inquiries and client requests, provider relations, provider recruiting, ATLANTES’ Clinical Case Management, data analysis and data warehouse support, data center and output operations, and pharmacy services including prospective drug utilization review and drug rebate invoicing.

EDS also will migrate Oklahoma’s Medicaid system to the latest version of the EDS interChange system utilizing .Net technology, which provides the ability to quickly build, deploy, manage, and use connected, security-enhanced solutions with Web services.

“We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with the OHCA and are pleased they have extended our contract ahead of schedule,” said Barbara Anderson, vice president of EDS State and Local Government Solutions. “This vote of confidence from the state signals they are ready to move forward in implementing system enhancements to better serve both providers and patients in Oklahoma.”

This contract was signed in the second quarter and was reflected in the company’s previously reported new business signings. Earlier this year, EDS won multi-year Medicaid contracts in Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Oregon and Kentucky.

EDS is the nation’s largest provider of Medicaid and Medicare BPO management services, administering more than $100 billion in benefits each year throughout the country. Within the Medicaid and Medicare environments alone, EDS touches more than 56 million lives and is the most experienced claims administrator, with nearly 40 years of experience. EDS processes more than 1 billion Medicaid claims annually, more than any other company, and is the fiscal agent for government healthcare in 19 U.S. states.
