WASHINGTON, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) Board President, Christobel Selecky announced today that Tracey Moorhead will become the association's new Executive Director. Ms. Moorhead will start August 1, 2005.
For the past five years, Ms. Moorhead has been the Executive Director for the Alliance to Improve Medicare (AIM), a Washington DC-based coalition representing consumers, providers, insurers, researchers, and employers brought together to work toward meaningful Medicare modernization. In that capacity, she has been responsible for advocating coalition principles for Medicare reform before Congress, the Administration and appropriate federal regulatory agencies; proposing and developing consensus position statements; implementing policy analysis and research activities; coordinating nationwide grassroots outreach and media campaigns; and planning and moderating a highly regarded issue briefing series for congressional offices. She is also Vice President of Government Relations for the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), a coalition of chief executives from all disciplines within the health care system focused on jointly developing healthcare policies, plans and programs.
In announcing the appointment of Ms. Moorhead, Ms. Selecky, who is also Executive Chairman of LifeMasters Supported SelfCare, said, "Like the Alliance to Improve Medicare, DMAA represents a broad and diverse range of stakeholders that have joined together to pursue a common mission. Tracey has demonstrated her ability to effectively lead such an organization by building consensus around a clear set of goals and objectives and successfully advocating the positions of the coalition before a variety of key audiences. These are very exciting times for the Disease Management community and it is important for our association to have strong leadership as we take on the opportunities and challenges that come with success. The DMAA Board of Directors and I look forward to working with Tracey to further our mission of advancing Disease Management through standardization of definitions and outcome measures; promotion of high quality standards for DM programs; and conducting broad- based education on the importance of Disease Management in the enhancement of individual and population-based health."
Ms. Moorhead stated, "The prevalence of chronic disease throughout all age groups will require a more patient-centered system focused on better outcomes through coordinated care management programs such as those developed by DMAA's diverse and innovative members. I am thrilled to lead DMAA and look forward to working to identify and advance new opportunities for health care's fastest growing movement."
Ms. Moorhead was selected through a national search process begun earlier this year. The Search Committee reflected the diversity of DMAA's membership and comprised Ms. Selecky; Don Fisher, CEO of the American Medical Group Association; William Popik, Chief Medical Officer of Aetna; Sandeep Wadhwa, Vice President of Government Strategic Programs at McKesson Health Solutions; David Nash, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Health Policy at Thomas Jefferson University; and Susan Riley, CEO of AirLogix.
