Joey Mattingly, PharmD, MBA, PhD, is an associate professor and vice chair of research in the Department of Pharmacotherapy at The University of Utah College of Pharmacy. He is a research fellow for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and previously served as an advisor to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Under the Inflation Reduction Act, medications with the same active ingredient will be treated as the same drug for price negotiation purposes—even if approved by the FDA under a separate application—disincentivizing companies from investing time and money in gaining approval for new formulations and indications.
