23 November 2010 -- The UK’s life sciences trade associations – the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI), the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), the BioIndustry Association (BIA) and the British In Vitro Diagnostic Association (BIVDA), today welcomed the appointment of Chris Brinsmead as the Government’s new Life Sciences Business Adviser.
In partnership with industry and Government, Chris will play a vital role in helping the Government to deliver a UK life sciences environment that promotes innovation and sector growth and ensures that patients have access to the latest medicines and medical technologies.
The four associations jointly said:

With over 30 years experience in the healthcare industry, Chris is a former President of the ABPI. He worked closely with Government in recent years and is currently Chair of the UKTI Life Sciences Marketing Board. He has also served as a UKTI Business Ambassador, and as co-chair of the Ministerial Industry Strategy Group (MISG) working group on R&D.

BIVDA
The British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) represent the in vitro diagnostics industry in the UK. BIVDA has more than 100 members who provide the tests and equipment which do not just allow rapid diagnosis but also screen for disease, monitor and manage treatment and ensure the safety of the blood supply for transfusion. Information from in vitro diagnostic tests accounts for about 70% of the information on a patient’s record.
The BIA events programme provides numerous opportunities for topical debate about emerging trends and key issues - plus excellent networking opportunities all year-round.
