Aegis Sciences Names Aegis Shield Expert Panel

NASHVILLE, TN--(Marketwired - June 11, 2015) - Aegis Sciences Corporation today announced the members of its Aegis Shield Expert Panel. Comprised of leaders in fields including sports medicine, nutrition and physiology, the Expert Panel provides Aegis guidance on its Aegis Shield mobile app and website as well as its Aegis Shield CERTIFIED program, which are designed to protect athletes from inadvertently consuming banned ingredients contained in dietary supplements, over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications.

“We created our Aegis Shield products and services to give athletes and supplement makers alike resources to help them avoid complications associated with banned or prohibited substances,” said Bob Murray, Ph.D., Scientific Director for Aegis Shield. “Our Expert Panel brings our company significant clinical, business, academic, and research experience and expertise. They offer us unique perspective and insight that will be invaluable as we continue to expand our Aegis Shield educational and program offerings.”

Athletes who are subject to sports drug testing can inadvertently test positive for prohibited substances found in some of the products they consume. Aegis Shield™ is mobile app and website designed to help athletes identify the presence of banned substances on the ingredient labels of dietary supplements, over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications. The Expert Panel helps Aegis stay abreast of current science and practices related to athletes’ dietary supplement use, with the goal of helping reduce the risk associated with consuming products containing prohibited substances.

In addition to contributing to the Aegis Shield™ app and website, the Expert Panel also helps guide the development of Aegis Shield CERTIFIED™, a certification program for dietary supplement manufacturers. As part of Aegis Shield CERTIFIED™, Aegis tests supplement products for the presence of prohibited substances such as steroids, stimulants and diuretics. Certified products can display the Aegis Shield CERTIFIED™ logo to assure consumers that the products have passed Aegis testing, that their ingredient labels and what is listed on their packaging are true to the products’ actual contents, and that they do not contain any prohibited substances.
