SOMAVAC Medical Solutions Welcomes Joelle Goan as Program Manager as it Moves Closer to the Commercialization of the SOMAVAC® Sustained Vacuum System

Memphis, TN (February 5, 2019) – SOMAVAC® Medical Solutions, Inc., a med tech company creating solutions to improve post-op care, announced today the appointment of Joelle Goan as Program Manager to aide in product development and commercial launch of its flagship device SOMAVAC® Sustained Vacuum Device. Goan’s knowledge and experience in product management and selling and marketing solution-based products into hospitals and OR suites will be a commanding asset to SOMAVAC as it continues to grow and advance its technology toward commercialization.

The SOMAVAC® Sustained Vacuum System is a low-profile, user friendly, wearable medical device that applies sustained vacuum to a surgical site following large-flap forming surgeries to remove fluid effectively and may reduce the risk of seroma. It is designed to replace the legacy technology of using manual suction bulbs attached to surgical drains, which has seen little innovation or advancements since the bulbs’ conception in 1970’s.

Goan will oversee all aspects of this and subsequent devices and their deliverables through commercial lifecycles while interfacing with external partners such as regulatory specialists and vendors.

“We’re honored and excited to welcome Joelle to the SOMAVAC team,” said Dr. Esra Roan, co-founder and CEO of SOMAVAC Medical Solutions. “Joelle’s knowledge and leadership in running pivotal commercial launch programs and product development is the perfect mix of expertise that will be vital to us as we prepare to commercialize our novel technology in 2019 as we design and commercialize more solutions and devices in our future.”

Prior to joining SOMAVAC, Goan was Senior Product Manager at Olympus Surgical Technologies America where she developed business case and portfolio roadmaps for new products based on VOC research, strategic fit and revenue opportunities. Before that Goan was at Hospira where her primary responsibility was promoting a portfolio of medical devices and pharmaceuticals into ORs and ICUs. She holds a BS in Nursing from University of Tennessee.

The SOMAVAC® Sustained Vacuum System is indicated for use in a range of surgeries which lead to large surgical flaps requiring drains, such as abdominal surgery, mastectomy, cosmetic surgery, hernia surgery, orthopedic procedures, etc.
