Blue Box™ Announces Disinfection Protocol

Industry innovator combats Coronavirus, promises Safe Air.

DALLAS, March 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Box Air, LLC, the pioneer in building optimization and carbon reduction, is announcing the immediate release of its new disinfection protocol for combating the potential threat for the Coronavirus within commercial HVAC systems. The new disinfection protocol was developed to address the expected impact that many healthcare and other commercial buildings will be experiencing once the coronavirus begins to spread.

Blue Box's new disinfection protocol involves its patented process for penetrating through the HVAC systems heat transfer coils and will deliver up to a 99% surface area coverage. This new disinfection protocol will focus on eliminating an often highly vulnerable part of any building's operations. "By addressing the HVAC system in this manner, we can greatly improve the safety of any facility's air as it circulates through a building," said Jim Metropoulos, CEO of Blue Box. "Our objective is to mitigate the risks of Coronavirus, as well as any other microbes, being circulated through the HVAC system and using the coils as a breeding ground."

Blue Box developed a patented innovation for how to clean and disinfect the heat transfer coils within the commercial HVAC system, which it had been using for optimizing building energy efficiency and improving indoor air quality. By changing the formulation and developing a new disinfection protocol, Blue Box will focus on regular treatment of the HVAC systems heat transfer coils, which will involve a combination of using enzymes and chlorine dioxide to disinfect the coils.

"The coils of an HVAC system is what all the air within a building must pass through in order to be heated or cooled. Before Blue Box, there was never a way to penetrate these coils to remove all the biological fouling that occurs deep within these systems. We had already solved this problem and now we are introducing a very powerful disinfectant to our process to ensure that deep within these coils no viruses are able to take root and spread resulting in safe air," Jim Metropoulos continues.

Blue Box's new disinfection protocol will involve a complex process of removing existing biofilm deposits using its proprietary enzyme treatment formulation, then injecting Chlorine Dioxide through the coils to ensure that no microbial growths are able to survive. Blue Box has begun piloting its new disinfection protocol in New York City and is beginning to roll out its new service throughout the US including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington DC.

"We currently service many of the leading medical institutions within the United States and we have begun demonstrating how Blue Box works and we are now sharing our new disinfection protocol for rapid adoption," Jim Metropoulos concludes.
