For the past 12 years, Celebrating Women has honored women who help to improve the quality of healthcare for women and who advocate for the disparities women face in healthcare, work, school or at home, in recognition of Gilda’s Club members which is 76% women.

Titia de Lange was born in the Netherlands and studied biochemistry at the University of Amsterdam. She moved to the US in 1985, joining Harold Varmus’ laboratory at UCSF for postdoctoral work. In 1990, she joined the faculty of The Rockefeller University as an Assistant Professor. She currently is the Leon Hess Professor and Director of the Anderson Center for Cancer Research at The Rockefeller University. Her pioneering studies of telomeres, the elements that protect the ends of our chromosomes, have revealed their role in cancer.

Celebrating Women is our way of recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of women who play an important role in improving the lives of others through research, advocacy and education,” notes Gilda’s Club NYC CEO, Lily Safani. “We are thrilled to honor Ms. Bush and Dr. Gerberding for their commitment to helping others through innovation, and look forward to Dr. de Lange’s Keynote presentation.”

Celebrating Women will benefit Gilda’s Club NYC’s free program of support for cancer patients, their friends, families and loved ones.
