SILVER SPRING, Md., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- SoftMed Systems, a national leader in health information technology, today announced that it has signed agreements to provide document scanning and imaging solutions to the Ohio State University Medical Center (Columbus, OH), Hackensack University Medical Center (Hackensack, NJ), and Summa Health System (Akron, Ohio). Each agreement includes ChartScan(R), SoftMed’s cost-effective, imaging solution for automating paper-based patient records that captures and stores documents at the point of patient encounter.
“We’re excited that these premiere healthcare facilities have chosen to implement SoftMed’s document scanning and imaging solutions,” says SoftMed Systems CEO Don Segal. “ChartScan offers a unique approach to electronic forms management that saves time and resources. SoftMed is focused on creating products that will help hospitals make the electronic health record a reality.”
The US Patent and Trademark office recently awarded SoftMed a patent for ChartScan’s innovative process, which provides unique identifiers within the barcode of each medical record document that connects the form to a particular patient and visit. ChartScan’s unique design enables healthcare organizations to reach the goal of an enterprise-wide electronic health record today -- fast, easily and economically. This eliminates the lengthy process of manual indexing of files and decreases staff time by identifying documents in correct page order as well as alerting the user as to whether any pages or documents are missing from the chart.
“ChartScan offers the functionality for clinical document acquisition we were seeking,” says Elizabeth Curtis, Administrative Director of Medical Information Management for The Ohio State University Medical Center. “ChartScan significantly reduces document retrieval time. It will help us save money on paper-based forms, and help ensure that patient records are complete and accurate. This product will be a critical component of the transition to electronic health records at OSU Medical Center.”
Ohio State University Medical Center will integrate ChartScan with their Siemens Lifetime Clinical Records “eResults” system allowing for viewing of results as well as scanned images. Hackensack University Medical Center and Summa Health System have selected SoftMed’s ChartView, which will allow them to view electronic documents and data from any workstation throughout the healthcare facility as well as physicians’ homes or offices via the Internet.
US News & World Report has consistently ranked Summa Health System and The Ohio State University Medical Center among the nation’s top healthcare facilities. Hackensack University Medical Center, also ranked by US News and World Report as one of America’s Best Hospitals, has been named as one of the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals five years in a row by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
